Native Venn diagram template

Photosynthesis and cellular respiration compared in a Venn diagram.

Compare photosynthesis and cellular respiration side by side, with the differences in each circle and the similarities in the middle, using your approved class content.

Venn diagram
WHAT YOU GET

One two-circle Venn diagram with photosynthesis on one side, cellular respiration on the other and the shared points in the overlap, using only the items you supply and naming your source. Check every item and its region against your lesson materials.

Two worked examples

A standard brief and an edge case.

Standard input

Review diagram with five differences on each side and four similarities

Class level and purpose
9th grade biology, end-of-unit review
Photosynthesis only
Takes place in chloroplasts Needs light energy Takes in carbon dioxide and water Releases oxygen Makes glucose
Cellular respiration only
Mostly takes place in mitochondria Breaks down glucose Uses oxygen Releases carbon dioxide and water Happens in almost all living cells, day and night
Shared by both
Controlled by enzymes Transfer energy Involve glucose, oxygen, carbon dioxide and water Happen in plant cells
Source or approval
Checked against our unit 4 biology notes by the science department
Boundary input

Advanced biology with long stage names, formulas and one shared point

Class level and purpose
AP Biology, cellular energy unit review
Photosynthesis only
Light-dependent reactions on the thylakoid membranes make ATP and NADPH Calvin cycle in the stroma fixes carbon dioxide into sugar 6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy → C6H12O6 + 6O2
Cellular respiration only
Glycolysis in the cytoplasm splits glucose into two pyruvate Krebs cycle in the mitochondrial matrix releases carbon dioxide Oxidative phosphorylation on the inner mitochondrial membrane makes most of the ATP C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
Shared by both
Both use an electron transport chain and ATP synthase to make ATP
Source or approval
AP Biology unit 3 notes, reviewed by the Lakeside High science department, September 2026

Checks that long stage names stay whole, formulas appear exactly as typed without reformatting, the single shared point sits alone in the overlap, and the long source note is still reported.

Same task, three directions

Pick a direction to start from.

01

Middle school review

Short phrases and two clear colors, for a quick recap at the end of a lesson or a study guide.

02

Word equations in each circle

The word equation for each process listed first in its circle, followed by the differences, when students are learning the equations.

03

Advanced biology with stages

Stage names and cell locations for older students, with formulas kept exactly as the teacher typed them.

What the template keeps

The parts that stay consistent.

01

Your science wording

Items appear exactly as supplied, including formulas and technical terms.

02

Differences and similarities kept apart

Each process keeps its own circle, and only what you list as shared goes in the middle.

03

A visible source

The source or approval note stays with the diagram.

How to use it

From details to a result.

  1. 01

    Choose the class level

The level shapes how detailed your items should be. It also goes in the diagram title.

  2. 02

    Paste the approved content

Differences for each process and the similarities they share, one point per line, from your lesson materials.

  3. 03

    Name the source

Where the content comes from or who approved it, so the diagram can be traced back.

  4. 04

Review in Vizify, then check every item

Nothing is created until you send. Compare each item and its region with your notes before class.

Output boundaries

What to check before you use it.

  • The content comes from you. Vizify does not check it against a textbook, curriculum or exam specification.
  • Chemical formulas appear as plain text. Subscripts and superscripts are not formatted.
  • A Venn diagram compares the two processes. It does not show the cycle of how the products of one feed the other.
  • Layout is automatic. No worksheet or slide file is produced, and export options are whatever the Vizify App offers.
Questions
What are the similarities between photosynthesis and cellular respiration?

Classes often list that both are enzyme-controlled reactions that transfer energy and involve glucose, oxygen, carbon dioxide and water in opposite roles. Use the wording from your own course materials in the shared field.

Can the diagram show the cycle between the two processes?

Not in this template, which compares them in a Venn diagram. For a diagram of photosynthesis and cellular respiration as a cycle, ask Vizify for a flowchart and list each input and output.

Why does the template ask for a source?

A diagram used in class should be traceable to approved material. The source note tells students and colleagues where the content comes from.

Can I make a Venn diagram of photosynthesis and cellular respiration for students to fill in?

Write "Add your own" as the only item in each region to leave space for students. Check the result before you share it, because empty space depends on the automatic layout.
